Driven by Innovation, Fueled by Passion. Explore the boundless horizons of robotics.

The Robotics Interest Group (RIG) is a vibrant community at NIT Calicut where passion for robotics drives innovation and fosters a collaborative spirit. We bring together students from diverse engineering backgrounds, each contributing their unique expertise to the development of cutting-edge robotic solutions. More than just an extracurricular, RIG ignites curious minds through workshops, open labs and hands-on projects.
In 2011, a group of students became enthused about participating in RoboCon 2012. Despite efforts to construct robots during holidays, they faced funding challenges and were asked to prove credibility. Undeterred, the group broadened their scope and sought guidance, eventually forming a cohesive team of 14 students under the mentorship of Mr. Sudheer A.P.
Their first creation, Plotterbot v1.0, helped establish credibility at the institute. They restored lab equipment, secured extended lab access, and continued working through breaks. A pivotal presentation on May 20 led to official recognition of the Robotics Interest Group (RIG) and funding that enabled participation in RoboCon 2013.
(This section tells the origin story and key milestones that helped launch RIG.)
RIG now stands as a community defined by resilience and creativity. We continue to run workshops, mentor newcomers, and pursue projects that push the boundaries of what’s possible. Our focus is to inspire and educate, creating pathways for students to contribute to robotics research and real-world applications.
UNLEASH INNOVATION — We organise hands-on workshops, open lab sessions, collaborative team projects, and competition prep. Our activities range from introductory electronics and programming sessions to advanced system design and deployment.
